Sarah Flower Adams was a 19th-century English poet and hymnwriter. She was born on February 22, 1805, in Great Harlow, Essex, England. Her parents were Benjamin Flower and Ann Flower, both of whom were Quakers. Sarah was the youngest of five children and grew up in a household that valued education and literature.
Sarah received her early education at home and was taught to read and write at a young age. She was also exposed to music and played the piano and harp. In 1820, at the age of 15, Sarah and her family moved to a farm in Great Harlow, where she spent much of her time studying and writing poetry.
