"Concrete Angel" is a song written by Rob Crosby and Stephanie Bentley, and performed by American country music artist Martina McBride. The song was released in 2002 and quickly became a hit, reaching the top of the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and becoming one of McBride's signature songs.
The song is a poignant and emotional ballad that tells the story of a young girl who is struggling with abuse at home. Despite the hardships she faces, the girl remains resilient and finds solace in her faith and her belief in angels.
The lyrics of "Concrete Angel" are powerful and moving, painting a vivid picture of the pain and suffering that many children experience at the hands of their caregivers. The chorus, in particular, is especially poignant, with lines such as "She walks to school with the lunch she packed / Nobody knows what she's holding back / Walking alone, it's just her and the sidewalk / A concrete angel" conveying the sense of isolation and loneliness that many abused children feel.
Despite the difficult subject matter, "Concrete Angel" is ultimately a hopeful and uplifting song. The chorus includes the line "But she's got an angel riding shotgun" and the song ends with the lines "She's just trying to find her way home / And she's got an angel watching over her / From up above / She's got an angel watching over her" reminding us that, even in the darkest of times, there is always hope and there are always people who care and are willing to help.
In conclusion, "Concrete Angel" is a beautifully written and performed song that touches on a very important and often overlooked issue - the prevalence of child abuse. The song's poignant lyrics and powerful message of hope and resilience make it a timeless classic that will continue to resonate with listeners for years to come.
Angela's Child Abuse Story
Somebody wrote an essay and made up the story. I certainly don't talk about it to anyone. She had a son that lived in Greenock Scotland and since the funeral was in that area, we crashed at his place. I have been greatly affected by what i went through my birth dad abused me in ways that you couldnt even imagine. The sad truth is that child abuse does happen, why parents think its ok to hurt their kids, i dont know but i cry, no i sobbed the first time i heard this song, i still cry every time it is played. Even though it's said you just want to keep watching and listening it's sad but addicting!! I wanted to know if it was true so I asked her and she didn't even know that I knew.

She walks to school with the lunch She packed Nobody knows what she's Holdin' back Wearin' the same dress She wore yesterday She hides the bruises with linen And lace Oh oh The teacher wonders but she Doesn't ask It's hard to see the pain Behind the mask Bearing the burden Of a secret storm Sometimes she wishes she was Never born Through the wind and the rain She stands hard as a stone In her world that she can rise above But her dreams give her wings And she flies to a place where She's loved Concrete angel Somebody cries in the middle Of the night The neighbors hear, but they turn Out the lights A fragile soul caught in the hands Of fate When morning comes It'll be too late Through the wind and the rain She stands hard as a stone In her world that she can rise above But her dreams give her wings And she flies to a place where She's loved Concrete angel A statue stands in a shaded place An angel girl with an upturned face A name is written on a polished rock A broken heart that the world forgot Through the wind and the rain She stands hard as a stone In her world that she can rise above But her dreams give her wings And she flies to a place where She's loved Concrete angel General Commentthe first time i heard this song i was just flipping through channels.
