Psalm 91, also known as the "Psalm of Protection," is a beautiful and uplifting psalm that offers comfort and reassurance to those who trust in God. The psalm is found in the Book of Psalms in the Old Testament of the Bible and is attributed to David, the king of Israel. It is written in the King James Version, which is a translation of the Bible into English that was completed in 1611.
The psalm begins with a declaration of trust in God, who is described as a "refuge" and a "fortress" for those who take refuge in Him. The psalmist declares that those who trust in God will be protected from the dangers and evils of the world, including deadly diseases and the attacks of their enemies. God is described as a shield and a protector, and the psalmist declares that God will "command his angels" to protect and defend those who trust in Him.
The psalmist also speaks of the blessings that come to those who trust in God, including being "hidden in the shadow of his wings" and being "satisfied with the richest of foods." These blessings are described as being "better than the best of earthly kingdoms" and being "better than the finest of earthly palaces."
Throughout the psalm, the psalmist emphasizes the faithfulness and loving kindness of God, who will never forsake or abandon those who trust in Him. The psalmist declares that God will "deliver" and "honor" those who trust in Him, and that God will "answer" their prayers and "be with them in trouble." The psalmist also speaks of the victory and triumph that come to those who trust in God, declaring that they will "overcome their enemies" and "tread upon the lion and the cobra."
In conclusion, Psalm 91 is a powerful and uplifting psalm that offers comfort and reassurance to those who trust in God. It speaks of the protection and blessings that come to those who seek refuge in God, and it declares the faithfulness and loving kindness of God towards His people. If you are feeling anxious or afraid, take comfort in the words of this psalm and trust in the protection and love of our heavenly Father.
Psalm 91 AMP;ESV;KJV
Commentary by Matthew Henry, 1710. Whatever is done, our heavenly Father's will is done; and we have no reason to fear. Those who rightly know God, will set their love upon him. Those who rightly know God, will set their love upon him. He notes that such believers have a close personal knowledge of God, love him and talk with him; consequently, God will protect, deliver, guide, comfort and honour them.
He will preserve the soul, that it be not defiled by sin, and disturbed by affliction; he will preserve it from perishing eternally. By day - Thou shalt be kept from secret and open mischiefs. We must see all our help in God; from him we must expect it, in his own way and time. God will protect them from dangers, both seen and unseen, both by day and by night. Under his wings you will take refuge. The safety of those who have God for their refuge.
Then let sinners come unto the Lord upon his mercy-seat, through the Redeemer's name; and encourage others to trust in him also. It is almighty wisdom that contrives, and almighty power that works the safety of those that put themselves under God's protection. They by prayer constantly call upon him. I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. Commentary by Matthew Henry, 1710. God's people shall see, not only God's promises fulfilled, but his threatenings. .
The Lord will manage all his worldly concerns, and preserve his life on earth, so long as it shall be good for him. Wisdom shall keep them from being afraid without cause, and faith shall keep them from being unduly afraid. He shall live long enough; till he has done the work he was sent into this world for, and is ready for heaven. Thou shalt not be hurt, neither by the open assaults, nor by the secret attempts of thine enemies. A man may die young, yet be satisfied with living.
Or, we must lift up our eyes above the hills; we must look to God who makes all earthly things to us what they are. And those who have found the comfort of making the Lord their refuge, cannot but desire that others may do so. Whatever is done, our heavenly Father's will is done; and we have no reason to fear. He will keep thee in life and death; going out to thy labour in the morning of thy days, and coming home to thy rest when the evening of old age calls thee in. The right hand is the working hand; let them but turn to their duty, and they shall find God ready to give them success. For encouragement in this he looks unto Jesus.

And those who have found the comfort of making the Lord their refuge, cannot but desire that others may do so. The spiritual life is protected by Divine grace from the temptations of Satan, which are as the snares of the fowler, and from the contagion of sin, which is a noisome pestilence. Arrow - The pestilence, or any such destructive calamity; such are frequently called God's arrows. Commentary by Matthew Henry, 1710. Psalm 91 God our protector This psalm appears to have been used in temple worship in a time of danger. Shall I depend upon the strength of the hills? He will take care that his people shall not fall. Who would wish to live a day longer than God has some work to do, either by him or upon him? At length the believer's conflict ends; he has done for ever with trouble, sin, and temptation. But a wicked man is not satisfied even with long life.

The Lord shall prevent the evil thou fearest, and sanctify, remove, or lighten the evil thou feelest. The spiritual life is protected by Divine grace from the temptations of Satan, which are as the snares of the fowler, and from the contagion of sin, which is a noisome pestilence.
