One of my most significant personal learning experiences occurred during my time in college. I had always been a good student in high school and was used to receiving good grades with minimal effort. However, when I got to college, I quickly realized that the workload and expectations were much greater than I was used to.
At first, I struggled to keep up with the course material and found myself constantly feeling overwhelmed and stressed. I would spend long hours studying and still not feel confident in my understanding of the subject matter. I began to feel like I wasn't cut out for college and that I had made a mistake in choosing a challenging major.
However, I didn't give up. I knew that I had always been a hard worker and that I had the potential to succeed if I put in the effort. So, I decided to try a different approach to my studies. I started attending office hours and seeking help from my professors and teaching assistants whenever I was struggling with a concept. I also started working with study groups and collaborating with my classmates.
Through these efforts, I began to see improvement in my grades and my understanding of the material. I realized that I had been trying to go it alone and that I needed to seek out additional support and resources in order to succeed. I learned that it was okay to ask for help and that doing so could actually lead to better learning outcomes.
This experience taught me the importance of being proactive and seeking out resources and support when needed. It also taught me that I am capable of achieving my goals as long as I am willing to put in the work and be open to trying new approaches. This lesson has stayed with me and has helped me to be more successful in both my academic and professional pursuits.
