Haydn soon became an assistant to composer Nicola Porpora in exchange for lessons, and in 1761 he was named Kapellmeister, or "court musician," at the palace of the influential Esterházy family, a position that would financially support him for nearly 30 years. Music is not only provide entertainment but it is also a tool for a composer and listeners to release emotion. I loved how the different instruments can all play by themselves and make a beautiful sound. The mass is broken up into six pieces. The Andante theme of the second movement, of nursery tune simplicity, is presented by the strings softly, repeated by them even more softly, and then punctuated by The Chord. Various musicians graced their musical talents and outlook with the world, contributing different elements that aided in making the Classical Period renown.

The initial melody then repeats throughout the second movement with a few smaller surprise chords throughout the movement's variations. You may have even heard of surprise proposals. You know that by allegro molto, which means fast and a lot. The slow movement seems a cross between the Mozart and the Beethoven adagio, with some tasty, near-instantaneous modulations to Novo Sibersk and back again. Why did Haydn add this random fortissimo beat within an otherwise gently melodic movement? My reasons for choosing these two pieces is due to the fact that they are contrasting in genre, one being a symphony with orchestration and the other being an operetta, and that they were written at different stages in Bernstein's life.
