In "Two Kinds," Amy Tan explores the complex and strained relationship between a Chinese immigrant mother and her American-born daughter. The daughter, Jing-mei, struggles to reconcile her mother's expectations for her to become a prodigy with her own desires to forge her own path in life. The mother, Suyuan, is driven by a fierce determination to give her daughter every opportunity for success, fueled by the belief that American culture is superior to Chinese culture and that being successful in America will bring her daughter respect and acceptance.
Through the use of flashbacks, Tan delves into the history of Suyuan's past in China and how she lost everything in the war, including her twin daughters. Suyuan's experiences have shaped her belief that Jing-mei must succeed at all costs, and she pushes her daughter to be a prodigy in piano, math, and other subjects. Jing-mei, on the other hand, resists her mother's expectations and ultimately rebels by refusing to continue with the piano lessons.
The conflict between Suyuan and Jing-mei ultimately comes to a head when Jing-mei discovers that she has a half-sister in China, a revelation that forces her to confront the fact that her mother has been keeping secrets from her and that her own identity is more complex than she had previously thought. Through this revelation, Jing-mei begins to understand her mother's motivations and the sacrifices that Suyuan has made for her daughter's future.

Mockingjay Book Summary
The losses she has to deal with all make her the woman she is now. Peeta slowly gets a grip on reality, but he snaps at any disturbing trigger. However, Peeta has undergone extensive fear conditioning by the Capitol and now views Katniss as a threat. I bought Mockingjay the first day it came out and I was preparing myself for a truly epic novel, one worthy of its predecessors. If you are reading this review, chances are that you're wondering if the Hunger Games trilogy lives up to the hype. This book seriously dragged and dragged and dragged, and just got slower and slower until everyone started dropping dead towards the last quarter of the book.
It reminds me of that scene in Ender's Game when Ender is reminiscing about how he's just won the war as one of the greatest generals of recent history and suddenly, in the clean up effort, he's become useless because the adults don't think that the same leadership and skills it requires to lead an army, could also be useful to rebuild a world. Not that I ever wanted Peeta to be mean or broken, but he can have heart and a backbone too. This Katniss is constantly waking up in hospital, taking drugs and completely losing the will to fight for the people she loves. The turning point happens when a rescue team went out to the Capitol to rescue the people Katniss had chosen to save from the Capitol. This is a common appearance for residents who live in the Seam. But towards the end of this novel, I didn't give a flying fart about Katniss's love life and who she ended up with, because everything seemed like such a hopeless, depressing mess that there was no point.
Although it seems her death kind of defeated the point of sparing her from the Hunger Games. However, when I read Catching Fire, after its predecessor disappointed me, I was STOKED to read Mockingjay. Here they are in the middle of a war, people are dying left and right, and all they care about is filming and getting good shots and angles and putting on a pretty face! Mockingjay Summary Spoiler alert: Important details of the novel are revealed below Katniss has been rescued from the Quarter Quell by the rebels, who now have a base in District 13. But, maybe I'm weird here, but for some stories, I don't WANT to read about the average, normal teenager. YA is a window to different ideologies and -isms held up by other people; for instance, Mockingjay is a clear message against war.
Just as President Snow uses violence and intimidation for power, President Coin appears to be doing the same thing. Katniss interacts with many of the characters as well as the third party Random people throughout book that are given no descriptions and show up only once or twice. Katniss only agrees to the role if Coin will acquiesce to her demands. However, Coin needed Katniss, the Mockingjay, to be the symbol of rebellion and rally the other Districts support. Since when was there an explosive that could fit on the head of an arrow and blow up an entire airship? Katniss represents human condition in many different ways throughout the story.
During the games, she wears a black body suit and her Mocking Jay pin attached to the suit. I wonder if I'm giving her too much credit though; judging from her selfish one-track mind in this book, I fear that she did this only because Coin killed Prim, not because she saw the bigger picture. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. And in Catching Fire, when the meaning being the clock was spelled out in an "I AM SYMBOLISM" manner. Worse yet, I fear this may just have been a result of Snow's manipulation, not her own decision. Tigris disguises the rebels and they take off - Cressida and Pollux are the guides, Katniss and Gale are the refugees looking for shelter, and Peeta is there to create a distraction if needed. In the novel Peeta and Katniss are not on the best of terms.
In exchange for her work she asked for some of her friends in the Capitol to be granted immunity from the war crimes that all people in the Capitol will face. As it came time for Katniss to show her strength, the judges were getting tired and hungry, and not paying attention to her, so to get there attention she shoots an arrow at the pig to get the attention of the judges, as they were frightened and amused at the same time As the movie continues and the contestants are standing on their platforms as the Hunger Games time clock is counting down, the intensity of the movie really presents Symbols In The Mockingbird During the span of the novel, Harper Lee paints characters through morals and lessons. Katniss's first duty as Mockingjay is to film "propos" - televised calls for resistance. Just as rebel medics arrive on the scene, she understands that Snow is using children as a barrier. It was just very, VERY disappointing.
I can give to the poor what I catch, and I can make sure everyone is equal. Even a little tedious after more than twenty years. This book is filled with more emotion, and I liked her best in this book, even though it's a tragedy of sorts. Prim shows her growth as more of an astute adult than the child Katniss has been trying to protect as Prim explains to Katniss that she has bargaining power as the Mockingjay. The bricks of the chimney, which collapsed in a charred heap, provide a point of reference for the rest of the house.
Peeta has been captured by the Capitol. Peeta, who Katniss loved, has been captured by the Capitol and it 's killing Katniss on the inside. She wakes up back in the District 13 hospital, and slowly begins to recover. He's the voice of reason. After the tour, she finds out she has not been able to prevent the rebellion.
Katniss votes in favor and the motion is passed. However, they are chased by Capitol They are separated and Gale is captured by the enemy. There is such a big game going on and Katniss' motivations and actions don't always make sense to me. Concealing her true plan, which is to assassinate President Snow herself, Katniss leads the group underground. As she saw the ruins, she felt guilty and angry for her role in the uprisings against President Snow. Unable to choose, she asks to be sent into action, and hopes that she can be useful to the rebels as more than just a symbol. Foxface placed 4th in the Games.
