The Skin I'm In is a young adult novel written by Sharon G. Flake. The story follows the experiences of a black teenage girl named Maleeka Madison, who is struggling with low self-esteem and feelings of inadequacy due to her dark skin and rough, acne-covered complexion.
Maleeka is a smart and talented student, but she often feels overshadowed by her more popular and attractive classmates. She is also constantly teased and bullied by a group of girls at school, who call her names like "Mudball" and "Darkie" because of her skin color. Maleeka's only solace is her close friendship with her neighbor and classmate, Charlese, who is the only person who truly seems to understand and accept her.
As the story progresses, Maleeka becomes the target of a new teacher at her school, Miss Saunders, who is white and has a very different approach to teaching than Maleeka is used to. Marilia hid him in a shed, but Gal found him and developed a crush on him. That weekend, Maleeka decides to get a haircut with her friend Sweets, and the women in the salon show Maleeka how to wear her hair with confidence. Ledgard finishes wiping the last traces of Vicente away from his prisoner, renaming him Vera. Ledgard tells Marilia to dismiss all the assistants and servants from employ. Ledgard won't say what more remains to be done, but he finally explains the reason behind it; why he's done all this, including kidnapping Vicente in the first place. Maleeka is a girl in seventh grade who has grown up without a dad, she is bullied every day, and is betrayed by her friends. Vicente's kidnapper finally comes into the shed: it's Ledgard.

JuJu constantly throws parties, and the house is dirty and full of strangers. Some people believe that she is crazy although Maleeka believes that she is a very smart and bright mother. She's picked up some lubricant cream, but she can't find it among her shopping bags. Zeca is also acquainted with Ledgard, having seen a presentation he gave in Madrid, and tracked him back to El Cigarral. He takes the key and goes back to Vera's room. The newspaper article shows that Vicente was last seen by his family on September 10, 2006.
