We Are Marshall is a 2006 American sports drama film directed by McG and written by Jamie Linden. The film stars Matthew McConaughey, Matthew Fox, and David Strathairn, and is based on the true story of the Marshall University Thundering Herd football team, which was devastated by a plane crash on November 14, 1970, killing all 75 people on board, including 37 football players and eight coaches.

The film opens with a prologue that shows the events leading up to the crash, including a dramatic football game between Marshall and East Carolina. The film then jumps forward to the aftermath of the crash, as the university and the town of Huntington, West Virginia struggle to come to terms with the loss. Jack Lengyel (Matthew McConaughey) is hired as the new head coach of the football team, and he faces the daunting task of rebuilding the team from scratch.

One of the strengths of We Are Marshall is its ability to portray the emotional impact of the tragedy on the community. The film does an excellent job of conveying the sense of grief and loss that the people of Huntington feel, as they try to come to terms with the fact that their beloved football team is gone. The film also does a good job of depicting the bond that exists between the players, coaches, and fans of the team, and how that bond helps to provide a sense of purpose and hope in the face of tragedy.

Another strength of the film is its cast. Matthew McConaughey gives a solid performance as Coach Lengyel, and he is ably supported by a strong ensemble cast that includes Matthew Fox, David Strathairn, and Ian McShane. The film also features a number of real-life Marshall players and coaches, who lend an authenticity to the film.

Overall, We Are Marshall is a well-made and emotionally powerful film that tells a compelling and inspiring story. It is a tribute to the resilience and determination of the Marshall community, and is a testament to the enduring power of sports to bring people together and provide hope in the face of adversity.

To further explain, at the start of the film Coach Yoast is extremely undermining of Boones authority when he first starts as the new head football coach. . . It is that coming back from the bottom that really inspires. The same can be said for David Strathairn. .

William Sewell English 201 3 May 2016 Varsity Blues Movie Analysis Varsity Blues is set at a high school in a small town in Texas. The first part of this movie, "We Are Marshall", deals with the events leading up to the crash, and how the community deals with it. The movie is definitely sad, as well it should be. It would have been nice to see more of the town, as McShane and Strathairn are two of the highlights. This movie follows the real event very closely as it really happened. Im real sorry hunnington, but your cheerleader wearing the ring from her "true" love is inhibiting her from going to the party with the frat boys.

. . . . A poster mentioned that some in Huntington don't like the film - everyone I know - including my cousin, felt that it really captured the time. It's one of the best of that genre ever made.

. . I laughed, cried, cheered, and then cried some more. The cast is littered with fantastic actors, from an unaccredited Robert Patrick, Ian McShane, and David Strathairn. . Emotional trauma is depicted as family and friends learn of the tragic accident and endure the funerals and memorial services.

The citizens that died included doctors, lawyers, a car dealership owner, dentist,a council member for Huntington and radio announcers for the herd. Obviously, this is a daunting task in total rebuilding and Matthew McConaughey delivers a knockout performance, which should have been recognized by the Motion Picture Academy, as the bubbly new coach, recognizing the huge task that was before him, while stressing that coming to terms with what occurred and going on is more important than just winning. I went to watch the movie here in New York State. . . . .

This movie is so great, it's so touching and emotional. Fox, McConaughey and David Strathairn are all solid but we don't get to know too much about the players, and the actors who play them seem a little out of their comfort zone. . For those of you who haven't seen the movie or know the story this isn't just a story about loosing a football team. . .

A small, but telling tribute to a college football legend himself who just as easily could have signed that prospect for his own Crimson Tide. What follows is a humbling experience for both men. The film could have benefited from being grittier and more realistic. Jack Lengyel replaced the coach that died in the tragic plane crash. However, the show had good editors and effects and also featured some good actors. I left the theater calmly in deep thought.

Others, again without rancor and with humility, believed that starting up a football team would be too painful a reminder of the tragedy. I am one of the judges for the Heartland Film Festival's Truly Moving Picture Award. . I drove 300 miles to see the Premiere in Huntington two days ago, and the audience actually clapped during certain scenes, laughed quite a few times, and there wasn't a dry eye in the house at the end. All in all it was the kind of movie that keeps you entertained and makes you feel as if your money getting the tickets was well spent. Both are exceptionally talented in their field, however Yoast feels his white players are superior to the black players, whereas Boone is devoted to putting aside the injustices regarding the different races, to lead the team to victory and teach valuable lessons to his players.
