Perhaps the most genius story is At the end of the day, though, it seems Rushdie views humanity as mostly similar, no matter where the person is from. I think he was going for western archetypes.
Analysis of East, West Story Collection by Salman Rushdie
These codenames come from Star Trek, a Western series that at the time was quite popular in India, though the characters had delve into the Star Trek lore as children, side by side, from the novelizations of the series. The writing style, subtle humor, narrative and touch of fantasy! As the plot progresses, discovery of Lucy being a cruiser owner had surfaced. Welshman Eliot Crane retires to the Welsh Marches after a lifetime crossing the borders between sanity and madness. I can tell that there is excellent craftsmanship and finesse in the stories. Despite Khan's close friendship with Eliot, he becomes romantically involved with Lucy.

The stories are well-written I have mosly enjoyed the first part - The East, but overall the book is great anyway and Rushdie knows how to combine words in an excellent mix of a true born story-teller and an exotic thinker. Khan's wife warns him that Eliot is bad for him, but Khan pays her no heed, and the four continue to behave as though the only thing wrong was Khan's occasional fits of madness. Or is she simply an allusion, and the narrator's obsession with recapturing the feeling of home he found with Gale has perverted his perception into combining the two characters. Perceptions of the East One of the most unexpected properties of East, West is the stylistic foundations of each of the sections. There can be no doubt that Hashim the moneylender knew from the first that he was in possession of the famous relic of the Prophet Muhammad, that revered hair whose theft from its shrine at Hazratbal mosque the previous morning had created an unprecedented hue and cry in the valley.
And above all, to feel. Interestingly, in reality the mosque Rushdie mentions claims to have this relic to this day. Rushdie shadows the idea of material relics, especially those of high value, can make a person go insane. These stories by themselves are rendered beautiful not just by the author's panache in narration, but also by this complex palate and diversity of styles across stories which make any curation of objects interesting. He abhorred the idea of being deified! The stories in East and West are based in their namesake worlds respectively. The story of a hall porter and "courter" of the narrator's ayah Mary, it is borrowed from Rushdie's own complicated life.
Yet he remains a writer who insists on our cultural complexity; who, rising beyond ideology, refuses to choose between East and West and embraces the world. Good Advice Is Rarer Than Rubies - A young woman attends the Consulate so she may join her husband for an arranged marriage in England, only to derail her interview with incorrect answers to remain in India as an independent woman. Breakfast ended; the family members wished one another a fulfilling day. We value very little more highly than our rage, which gives us, in our opinion, the moral high ground. Rushdie bases his story on the fundamentals of magic realism, using fictional or magical elements and blending it into a real-world scenario. At his return, he finds both his mother and sister weeping to the high heavens. Not worth the read I actually couldn't even finish it - had to skip the last fifty pages or so. On this, too, Hashim was fond of congratulating himself. .
As the next day rose, new rules were being set by Hashim among the home. I think Rushdie was trying to get across the idea of not letting the demonic presence get the best of you or break you down any lower than you are happy with, because it could lead to a life of devilish and remorseful actions. Hashim now has a decision to make: return the hair to its shrine, restating peace, or to keep it to himself. Chekov and Zulu Definitely one of the cheekiest stories in East, West, Chekov and Zulu looks at two men in London, codenames Chekov and Zulu, centering on the assassination of Indira Gandhi by two Sikhs nationalists in 1984. Somehow did not relate much actually not at all to the "West" stories - somehow in those, felt he was trying too hard to impress when simple is what he does best - although since I've not read Rushdie before have no clue what he does best but that was my impression - that he was trying to capture an audience not familiar with him. There is so much to yearn for.
Only the Unknown…can satisfy her. What do those grand ideas of home, culture, or nation even mean? How can a person survive between cultures? Rushdie is not flat out telling us of a demonic presence within Eliot, but he surely is foreshadowing the rendering of an evil entity controlling Eliot. In the 21st century, instantaneous communication, global economics, and increasing migration of people across continents have drastically destabilized old views on the formation of cultural identities. This is followed by the author's enthusiasm for The Wizard of Oz manifested in "At the Auction of the Ruby Slippers", another tour de force using the historic present for much of the narrative and indulging in joyous flights of fancy. Overall the "East, West" stories are the best, the "West" stories aren't generally as good, and the "East" stories fall somewhere in the middle, which all makes intuitive sense.
