Plastic surgery is a controversial topic that has garnered much attention in recent years. On one hand, some argue that plastic surgery is a legitimate way for individuals to improve their appearance and boost their self-esteem. On the other hand, others argue that plastic surgery is a superficial and unhealthy way to try to fix one's appearance, and that it can lead to dangerous and even deadly complications.

One argument in favor of plastic surgery is that it can help individuals who have physical deformities or scars from accidents or injuries to feel more confident and comfortable in their own skin. For example, reconstructive surgery can be used to repair facial or bodily abnormalities caused by birth defects, trauma, or disease. This type of surgery can be life-changing for individuals who have been self-conscious about their appearance and may have struggled with social interactions and self-esteem as a result.

Another argument in favor of plastic surgery is that it can help people to look and feel younger. As we age, our skin and bodies naturally begin to sag and wrinkle, and some people may feel self-conscious about these changes. Plastic surgery procedures such as facelifts, brow lifts, and neck lifts can help to tighten and lift the skin, giving the appearance of a more youthful appearance. Similarly, procedures such as breast augmentation or reduction can help individuals to feel more comfortable and confident in their bodies.

However, there are also valid arguments against plastic surgery. One concern is that plastic surgery can be unhealthy and even dangerous. Complications from plastic surgery procedures can include infection, scarring, and even death. In addition, some people may become addicted to plastic surgery, constantly seeking out new procedures in an attempt to achieve an unattainable standard of beauty. This can lead to financial ruin and can even have negative impacts on mental health.

Another argument against plastic surgery is that it reinforces harmful societal beauty standards that prioritize appearance over substance. Many people feel pressure to conform to certain beauty standards, and plastic surgery can be seen as a way to achieve these standards. This can lead to a focus on superficial characteristics rather than inner qualities such as kindness, intelligence, and compassion.

In conclusion, plastic surgery is a complex and controversial topic that has both proponents and opponents. While it can be helpful for individuals with physical deformities or who want to reverse the signs of aging, it also carries risks and can reinforce harmful societal beauty standards. It is important for individuals to carefully consider the potential risks and benefits of plastic surgery before making a decision.

zeitoun summary part 1

My heart broke for the people, I did what I could, and felt horrible I couldn't do more, and that our government did not do more good. In the wake of messing with a couple of his laborers, Zeitoun gets a call from his sibling, Ahmad. The book is full of stories of the role of the sea both tragic and glorious, of course in the story of the Zeitoun family in Syria which are included to provide dramatic tension. She will take the plane the next day to Phoenix. However, while I read on, I found myself thinking that Zeitoun was quite the opposite of a hero.

He has a flashback of Mohammed, who won many swim races and took pictures with different political leaders. With some delay, Zeitoun succeeded in rebuilding his existence in New Orleans and getting some partial justice. Is it because he's popular? The open-ended and philosophical nature of Islam appealed to Kathy, as did the emphasis on personal responsibility and dignity. This part of the book was shocking and sadly displayed what happens when our Constitutional rights are ignored by authorities and people in crisis mode forget basic kindnesses. Zeitoun eventually settled in the United States and made his way to New Orleans. So let's talk about it. .

They try to find Zeitoun but are unsuccessful. This would have been 5 stars if not for the very strange flow of the story from one random thought to other entirely unrelated bits of information. Now that the reading is over, I have little sense of Eggers's voice, which is one precise reason why I rate this so highly- the story is not his, it is that of the Zeitoun's. Zeitoun comes across as a fine man, a man I would love to have as a neighbor. Kathy has a complex relationship to her family, which can be both loving and hurtful at turns.

Walt and Rob, Zeitoun's friends, wants to know if their cat was still in their house. I enjoyed the book and hadn't realized how many horrible things happened in New Orleans besides the actual impact of the hurricane. What about the inspiration for the story? It struck me though how this 2009 book is just as relevant today, probably even moreso given the hate-filled rhetoric of one candidate for U. I was shocked, stunned, angry, heartbroken, dismayed and completely riveted by the tale. No, they're just not very pleasant and they offer him ham sandwiches every now and then.

His boss, In another flashback, Zeitoun remembers the ten years he spent traveling the world while working odd jobs on ships. Not benign neglect — the careless omission of deeds by people too busy to do otherwise — but malign: the wilful contempt for human life and human rights, social capital and environmental infrastructure, because the state did not care to act otherwise. The relationship with the media is complex, but universal. He had a aluminum canoe that he paddled around in to help others in need. Partnering with another Syrian immigrant and an acquaintance named Nasser Dayood, and one of his tenants, Todd Gambino, he started helping everyone who was in need of help: elderly couples, a woman trapped in her flooded home, the dogs left without owners. Kathy will drive to Houston, where Yuko's friend Mary lives.

The men are taken to Camp Greyhound, a temporary makeshift prison at the Greyhound Bus station. These "flashbacks" also often have narrative, character or thematic significance. But when they took him to the local police station they say they were both abused while the wounded man lay dying in the car. We are done there and can go to bed and rest comfortably. Does any of this matter? Stay away from this book. But to call it NONfiction is probably a stretch. Including the backlogged looters and violent arrestees.

He beat their 15 year old daughter for taking off her headscarf as well. He often thought back to the time they spent together fishing as young men and then later as sailors together on the high seas. What about the inspiration for the story? Finally, an anonymous missionary informs her that her husband is being held at a prison in Louisiana. So much for that drama. The rumors of violence and lawlessness make her frantic. Politically, I suppose so.

Since Kathy was the one answering phones, she was the only one to experience such incidents. In August 2012, he was charged with plotting to have Kathy Zeitoun, her son, and another man murdered. I also listened to many hours of podcasts when I decided the scenery was nice enough that I didn't want to be reading — it turns out train trips are a great way of catch I'm on Amtrak today, on the first of a three-day trip to New Orleans. Fred punched Rene so hard that it knocked him off the stairs, out of my closed gate, and rolled him backward out onto the public sidewalk. His mind keeps wandering back to his childhood; the distance Kathy always felt from her family is extended because of her choice of religion. The real subject of Eggers is the inadequate organization of American society and how quickly it can descend to the level of a banana republic. He provided some assistance in the days following the hurricane but that wasn't his purpose for staying.
