To Kill a Mockingbird is a novel by Harper Lee published in 1960. It is set in the Deep South, in a small town called Maycomb, Alabama during the 1930s. The story is told from the perspective of Jean Louise Finch, also known as Scout, a young girl who witnesses the prejudice and injustice that exist in her community.
One of the main themes of To Kill a Mockingbird is the corrupting influence of prejudice and discrimination. The story follows the trial of Tom Robinson, a black man who is falsely accused of raping a white woman. Despite the lack of evidence against him, Tom is convicted by an all-white jury, simply because of the color of his skin. This injustice is a clear example of the prejudice that exists in Maycomb and the harm it can cause.
Another important theme of the novel is the importance of empathy and understanding. Scout and her brother Jem are taught by their father, Atticus Finch, to see things from other people's perspectives and to be compassionate towards others. I smell the smoke of fireplaces and think about hot cider and the wind catches and my breath is taken from me and I bundle my coat tighter against me and lift my head to the sky, no clouds, just a stunning blue that hurts my eyes, another deep breath and I have this feeling that all is okay. I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. This character trait has endeared the Finch family to millions of readers and will continue to do so for generations to come. He could throw out a racial slur without a single thought, care or worry to who was around. . To me, it's the story of a child growing up and learning to see the world with the best possible guidance.
The Written Review: If you haven't read this as an adult - pick it up today I think there's just one kind of folks. Compassionate, dramatic, and deeply moving, "To Kill A Mockingbird" takes readers to the roots of human behavior - to innocence and experience, kindness and cruelty, love and hatred, humor and pathos. Just as he chose one to start with, his glasses fell and he stepped on them trying to find them. . Even if it sounds silly. It was a trying time as the federal government asserted itself against states still grieving from the war between the states and holding out as the last bulwarks of white superiority.

I was just so enthralled with reading other things that I didn't read this one as well as I should've. . He is the role model to end all role models and what is most impressive is that he comes across as such a REAL person. I don't get why I have to read a book about it. It just sounds so beautifully sad. The final message is that most white people are nice when you get to know them. The country folk may or may not have received an education because they had to work the fields and many were illiterate. Their distress is kept at safe distance from the reader. Harper Lee exhibited as much courage as the characters in her novel, and rightfully was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for her work.

So, I just wanted to know how realistic that scenario is. As regards this book, the last phrase is a lie. He is the ultimate father; he has the perfect response for every situation. The Reverend Sykes welcomes Jem and Scout into his congregation as though they were his own and invites them to sit in the colored balcony at time when segregation was still the law. I believe that the courage exhibited by all these characters has made the town of Maycomb, Alabama stand the test of time and remain the timeless classic that it is. So, I thank Harper Lee for giving me Atticus. At the trial, it is alleged that Tom entered the Ewell property at Mayella's request to chop up a In his closing argument, Atticus asks the all-white male jury to cast aside their prejudices and focus on Tom's obvious innocence.
