Cinderella is a classic fairytale written by Charles Perrault in the late 17th century. The story follows the titular character, Cinderella, a young woman who is mistreated and oppressed by her stepmother and stepsisters. Despite her difficult circumstances, Cinderella remains kind and compassionate, and is eventually rewarded for her goodness when she meets a prince at a royal ball.
The story begins with Cinderella living with her cruel stepmother and stepsisters, who make her do all the household chores and treat her poorly. One day, the royal family announces that there will be a ball, and all the eligible young ladies in the kingdom are invited to attend. Cinderella's stepmother and stepsisters go to the ball, but they forbid Cinderella from going, leaving her behind to clean the house.
Cinderella is heartbroken, but her fairy godmother appears and transforms her rags into a beautiful dress, and a pumpkin into a carriage. She also turns a rat into a coachman, and mice into horses. The fairy godmother warns Cinderella that she must return home before the stroke of midnight, or the spell will be broken.
At the ball, Cinderella meets the prince and they fall in love. They dance and have a wonderful time together, but Cinderella loses track of time and runs out of the ball just as the clock strikes midnight. She leaves behind one of her glass slippers, which the prince picks up and vows to find the owner.
The next day, the prince goes to Cinderella's house and tries the glass slipper on her stepsisters, but it is too small for their feet. When he arrives at Cinderella's house, he tries the slipper on her foot and it fits perfectly. Cinderella is revealed to be the prince's true love, and they live happily ever after.
Charles Perrault's Cinderella is a timeless tale that has been retold and adapted countless times, but the basic story remains the same: goodness and kindness are always rewarded, and true love conquers all.
