It just wasn't what I expected. In the end, you could have the shape of both characters, but both of them could have the textures of one or the other. What doesn't change, however, is the spirit of the source material. Alternatively, Skarsgard undeniably excels as sadistic, demonic being Pennywise. I found the old TV movie somewhat dull in the second half. It's like with good marketing, this new film was able to pull the wool over everybody's eyes and fool them into thinking it was a classic masterpiece. I think the child actors really committed and showed the level of talent that you'd usually see in an adult actor.
IT truly is the scariest movie of all time. I love old horror films. . Pennywise was cast very well and I loved his voice and overall creepiness, but it couldn't make up for the fact that every time he and the main character's met it felt like a "Tom and Jerry" routine. Much of what actually happened between the kids and It has been cut, but again - running time. This formula can be repetitive but it is terrifying when each child has their own encounter with Pennywise. Retrieved June 26, 2018.
They've managed to portray the losers and the relationship between them decently enough- considering the running time. It included It because I think those moments of levity provide a great contrast to those darker moments, or makes the darker moments feel all that much darker. We're not working on the second part yet. The film is gorier than the mini series. The dialogue is good, there is an eerie sense of dread, and a moment where IT aka Pennywise goes from being a friendly-ish clown to a terrifying villain in an instant through a very well placed awkward stare. And right the way through we got raucous adventure, grisly horror, tension, and tragedy.
The makeup is brilliant and Tim Curry provides a truly terrifying performance as Pennywise that the remake cannot provide. I haven't seen the original Tim Curry It miniseries yet, so I cannot compare the two, all I know is that the original is basically like two films in one.
It did justice to a great story, even introduced some new aspects into the mix, and whetted appetites for more to come. This new film is completely void of the book's special qualities such as the "hi-ho Silver! When we compare "Stand by me" with "It", the coming of age element is more prominent in "Stand by me" and the horror element in "It". I wasn't a huge fan of the 1990 TV miniseries probably since it was 20 years after it came out that I first saw it but it was more accurate and explained the relationships more than this movie. .
