I am quite impressive not only the content of the story, but also her writing style and she use many different kinds of words to express her view. Her novels have been translated into German, French, Spanish, Dutch, Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, Finnish, Italian, Japanese, Catalan and Afrikaans. This is a stunning novel that grips the reader as it sweeps to its conclusion. Margaret Mahy died on 23 July 2012. The beginning part of the story is very boring until you reach the middle where all of the action starts.
The Margaret Mahy Medal Award was established by the New Zealand Children's Book Foundation in 1991 to provide recognition of excellence in children's literature, publishing and literacy in New Zealand. Meaning they really could happen to anyone. In 2006 she was awarded the Hans Christian Andersen Award known as the Little Nobel Prize in recognition of a "lasting contribution to children's literature". I enjoyed the book 24 Hours very much, it was very interesting! I recommend this book to anyone who likes reading about challenges, hardship and true life. For the next twenty-four hours, Ellis enters an extraordinary world on the fringe of society that he never knew existed.
For her contributions to children's literature she was made a member of the Order of New Zealand. The book may be a little bit confusing but that is only because the caracters themselfs are confused. While the plots of many of her books have strong supernatural elements, her writing concentrates on the themes of human relationships and growing up. This book is about 24 hours of Ellis first day back. . In the next twenty-four hours, he meets a friend, Jackie who brings him go to a mystery world that cannot escape. I like this book very much so that I rate it with a four stars, but there are a little blemish which is the beginning of the story, everything happen too slow and a little bit boring, you want to pay more attention to the person at every parts because it will turn up at the most important part and act as a key person.

Although the situations are quite adult, it can reflect the normal life that everyone may encounter, so that it is suitable for every age group. Jackie introduces him to life at the Land-of-Smiles, a dilapidated motel where nightly a strange collection of local characters gather to drink and talk. By chance he bumps into Jackie Cattle, whom he remembers from grade school.

Margaret Mahy was a well-known New Zealand author of children's and young adult books. . Some people might like that, but personally I am not one of those people. Basically, this looks at the life of Ellis, a good kid going to college, trusted with his mom's car, etc. I do enjoy this book very much because it is really interesting, attractive and mystery especially in the epilogue part. .
I am strongly recommended to you. In 24 hours, Ellis crashes a party, is involved in a wild car chase, gets a tattoo and among other things, is trying to stop someone commit suicide. To me Margaret used tons of details and quotes in the beginning such as, " retreating, like precisely spaced bloms in a park garden, they rose on long green stems that curved elegantly at the top, then blossomed into hoods of deep crimson. They often have harrowing stories to tell, yet their personal resilence and determination to make something of their lives is quietly inspiring. However I would have to rate this book with 4 stars. I liked how she used the young teenager in the story making the events in the story believeable.
Although this is my first time reading Mahy book. You can't guess what the ending is if you not read throughout the whole story, when you read more, there will a force put you to continue to read. Mahy does a good job of portraying these less fortunate kids in a realistic, unsentimental way. But many of today's teens will recognize that landscape as real, and appreciate Mahy's honesty in addressing it. However, she used to much detail to set the stage.
Ellis, the main character in the story had just come home from college and is trying to get over is best friends suicide. Imagine this - you've left school and you have a day of freedom. That is why I liked this book so much was because I could really relate to the characters. The 24 hours of exacly what he needs to cupe with his friends suicide.
Simply just becasue I didn't like the beginning. On the whole, if you want to know what happen to the Ellis¡ Margaret Mahy always turns out interesting and thought provoking young adult work, although with this particular outing she mostly eschews the magical overtones that characterize her earlier works The Changeover, The Tricksters. Leona loves and takes care of a baby whose mother stops in only once in a while. There have 100 children's books, 40 novels, and 20 collections of her stories published. An exciting rush through real life at breakneck speed, this rowdy adventure will have teen readers wholeheartedly chiming in with Ellis when he remarks, "I'm too much a part of the story now. Although the situations are quite adult, it can reflect the normal life that everyone may encounter, so that it is suitable for every age group. This book was a very fast read and I enjoy every weird moment of it.
Jackie is a couple of years older than Ellis, a drifter, disreputable, yet with an odd charm and a disarming wit. It would be interesting to read a sequel and see how it all turns out, though if we can believe the crystal-ball wielding Fox, Ellis will indeed return to the Land-of-Smiles. . Her books The Haunting and The Changeover: A Supernatural Romance both received the Carnegie Medal of the British Library Association. Rich characterization, breathtaking action, and an ultimately heartwarming solution distinguish this latest triumph of Margaret Mahy. On the whole, if you want to know what happen to the Ellis¡¦s life, does he success to find the kidnapped child and success to persuade his old friend.
