Part one, titled "The Sword in the Stone," follows Arthur as a young boy who is being raised by his adoptive father, Sir Ector. Arthur is unaware of his true identity and is instead known as "the Wart." He is a curious and adventurous boy who is constantly seeking new experiences and knowledge.
In part two, titled "The Queen of Air and Darkness," Arthur becomes a young man and is crowned king after pulling the legendary sword Excalibur from the stone. He marries Guinevere and starts building his kingdom, with the help of his trusted advisors, including the wise Merlin.
Part three, titled "The Ill-Made Knight," focuses on the life of one of Arthur's knights, Sir Lancelot. It explores the complicated and tumultuous relationship between Lancelot and Queen Guinevere, as well as the challenges that Arthur faces as he tries to maintain peace and order in his kingdom.
Finally, in part four, titled "The Candle in the Wind," Arthur's kingdom begins to crumble as he faces betrayal from those he trusts and war with neighboring kingdoms. The once great and powerful king is forced to confront his own mortality and the mistakes he has made throughout his life.
The Once and Future King is a compelling and thought-provoking tale that explores the themes of love, loyalty, and the human condition. It is a timeless classic that continues to be enjoyed by readers of all ages.
