The Barnum & Bailey Museum, also known as the Barnum Museum, was a museum in Bridgeport, Connecticut founded by showman P.T. Barnum in 1881. Barnum, who was famous for his traveling circus known as "Barnum & Bailey's Circus," wanted to create a permanent museum to showcase the many curiosities and artifacts he had collected over the years.

The museum was located in a grand, three-story building and featured a wide variety of exhibits, including stuffed animals, wax figures, and other strange and unusual items. One of the most popular exhibits was a collection of mummies and Egyptian artifacts, which had been purchased by Barnum from a Cairo dealer. Other exhibits included a display of rare books and manuscripts, a gallery of paintings and sculptures, and a hall of curiosities filled with oddities such as two-headed animals and other bizarre specimens.

In addition to the exhibits, the museum also featured a number of interactive displays and activities, such as a magic show and a theater where visitors could watch live performances. Barnum was known for his love of entertainment and his desire to educate and entertain the public, and the museum reflected this philosophy.

Despite its popularity, the Barnum Museum faced several challenges over the years. In the early 20th century, the museum struggled financially and was forced to close its doors for a time. It eventually reopened, but in the 1950s it was destroyed by a fire. Today, the site of the museum is home to a shopping center and a parking lot.

Despite its closure, the Barnum Museum remains an important part of the cultural history of Connecticut and a testament to the enduring legacy of P.T. Barnum. It was a place where people of all ages could come to learn, be entertained, and marvel at the strange and wonderful things that Barnum had collected over the years.
