In "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Cheese Touch," the main character, Greg Heffley, is a middle school student who is constantly trying to fit in and be popular. One day, a student named Corey announces that there is a piece of moldy cheese on the playground that has been touched by everyone who has come into contact with it. According to Corey, the person who touches the cheese will become popular.
Greg is initially skeptical of this claim, but as more and more students start touching the cheese, he becomes convinced that it might be true. Despite his reservations, Greg eventually gives in to peer pressure and touches the cheese himself. However, rather than becoming popular, Greg becomes a social outcast as all of the other students start avoiding him.
As the days go by, Greg becomes more and more isolated and depressed. He tries to wash the cheese off of his hand, but it seems to be stuck to his skin. Desperate to get rid of the cheese and regain his popularity, Greg turns to his best friend Rowley for help. Together, they come up with a plan to get rid of the cheese once and for all.
In the end, Greg and Rowley are able to successfully rid Greg of the cheese touch, and he is finally able to return to his normal life. However, Greg learns an important lesson about the dangers of peer pressure and the importance of standing up for himself. He also learns that true friends, like Rowley, will always be there for him no matter what.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid Summary & Study Guide
Consequently, students who are thought to have the Cheese Touch are socially ostracized and treated as if they are literally infections. The two other thing I liked about the book is that the book is not just words, it also has illustrations to show the stories better than the words could. It's a place rigged with hundreds of social landmines, not the least of which are morons, wedgies, swirlies, bullies, lunchtime banishment to the cafeteria floor - and a festering piece of cheese with nuclear cooties. An adult had seen what was happening but mistook Greg for Rowley. The Cheese Touch symbolizes the ways that, for young teenagers like Greg, the loss of social status and exclusion from the wider peer community can be devastating. The conflict between Greg and Rowley comes to an end, however, when both are bullied by the same teenagers who chased them on Halloween.
