A white dealer in musical instruments is very interested in it. It is the fourth play in Wilson's The Pittsburgh Cycle. Thesis: Even though there were paying jobs for African Americans, there was still a lack of economic progress because whites continued to discriminate against them. The ending was a bummer, but still an enjoyable play and I don't read plays. Sometime late at night I could hear my mama talking to them. The history of the characters and how it has defined them, their loves and their hates, their flaws and their talents, is truly inspiring.

Wilson's ten plays are a jewel for anyone studying African American history. Though initially Miss Ophelia, Sutter's wife, loved the piano, she started to miss her slaves and attempted to trade them back. The New York Times. A haunting that's caused by another haunting? Would you consider Chris McCandless and Huck Finn rebels? The next morning, Lymon and Willie try to move the piano out and are stopped by Uncle Doaker. All you got to do is set them down by the side of the road. Then, they're actually haunted by Sutter, the former slaveowner of their family. A lot of things have been written about how slavery continues on even after its end, but this so remarkably shows a cavalcade of characters responding to it, and not just lamenting about how terrible white people, showing real, living people and how such a thing could help define who they are, that I was blown away.

Avery moves north once Berniece's husband dies in an attempt to court Berniece. Avery Brown: A 38-year-old preacher who has been attempting to court Berniece ever since the death of Crawley, Avery Brown is a man of honest and good intentions. She remains the only member of the family to adamantly demand the keepsake of the piano heirloom. Wilson's work speaks to both experiences as well as about a dozen other experiences, but unless I am completely crazy, I truly believe his work first and foremost speaks to the black, that is to say, African-American experience in the United States in the 20th century. It does with silence what Ma Rainey does with its opposite at its end: it uses sound or its absence to shock. If African Americans proceed to replicate the white standards their true identity will be lost due to the mixed cultures.
