The author, his grandfather and Masood are the main characters of the story. He is unacquainted with the lifeways of the village. I love Harry Potter too!!!!! It is a mysterious tree. The story is about a young boy who, as the story begins is in awe and admiration of his grandfather, who is the richest man in their village and also well respected by everyone. Masood's pain at seeing another part of his inheritance go away, the boy's sudden empathy with Masood. The Language of the story is simple and easy to comprehend. At the harvest the boy sees Masood being aloof, but underneath it the boys senses that Masood is suffering.

The same day Masood approaches the grandfather telling him the dates in his land what he has still is being harvested and invites him to it. In Length, it is a longer short story and can be called a novella. Lust and insolvency is the main theme of the short story. Something snaps inside the boy and he runs away from there and the story ends with him throwing up the dates he had eaten while watching the harvest. The village is far from being gone under the modern facilities of life. The listener is silent throughout the story. The story, in Structure, is not a coherent one as the logical stages of the structure of a good short story are not maintained in the story. Here, however, the story that emerges through the overlapping, sometimes contradictory voices of the villagers is comic.
Salih remained a controversial figure into his old age, publishing an essay in 1990 that was sharply critical of the Islamist regime in charge of Sudan at the time. Then the narrator tells the story of the Doum Tree situated in the village at the bank of a river. This story does not belong to me. Since then people believed that the tree had some healing power. Through this story, the storyteller has shown how a person, whose hobby was to marry women one after another, became insolvent and wretched.
