Writing reviews can be a helpful and rewarding activity, whether you are reviewing a product, a book, a movie, or a service. Reviews allow you to share your opinions and insights with others, and they can also be a useful resource for people who are considering purchasing or experiencing something for themselves. In order to write an effective review, there are a few essentials that you should keep in mind.

First and foremost, it is important to be honest and objective in your review. While it is okay to express your personal feelings and opinions, it is not helpful to be overly critical or biased. Instead, try to present a balanced view of the item you are reviewing, highlighting both the positive and negative aspects.

Another essential aspect of writing a review is to be specific and detailed. Rather than simply stating that you liked or disliked something, try to explain why. What specifically did you like or dislike about the item? Was there anything that stood out to you as particularly noteworthy? The more specific and detailed you can be, the more helpful your review will be to others.

It is also helpful to provide context for your review. This might include information about your personal experiences or background that might be relevant to the review. For example, if you are reviewing a book, it might be helpful to mention what type of books you typically enjoy or what drew you to this particular book. This can help readers understand where you are coming from and how your perspective might differ from theirs.

Finally, it is important to be respectful in your review. Even if you did not enjoy something, it is important to avoid being unnecessarily harsh or mean-spirited. Remember that your review is just one person's opinion, and there may be others who have a different perspective.

In conclusion, there are a few essentials to keep in mind when writing a review. Be honest and objective, be specific and detailed, provide context, and be respectful. By following these guidelines, you can write helpful and insightful reviews that will be useful to others.

They love to watch the videos and have grown so much in their writing. I am not self motivated whatsoever so having a teacher that expected assignments turned in gave me that incentive to keep going and continue learning. I was a public school teacher for 12 years and I now stay home to teach 4 out of my 5 children. My 11 year old was behind on some of the foundational skills, so I started him on the 3rd grade level in May, even though he is technically going into 5th grade in the fall. My 8th grader will finish his soon, and my 6th grader will finish well before the end of our school year. Overall, I would say that Essentials in Writing was a big hit with both Ben and me. Run-ons are the norm for this sweet girl, and her papers are often plagued with awkward wording.

Obviously, other levels will cover other aspects of grammar and writing instruction. I haven't used the elementary level, so I think you'd have to email Matthew on that, and he might be able to give some insight. He just completed level eight, and I am amazed at his growth this year! The lessons on narrative writing really stepped Ben through the process in a way that made it super simple for him. That is, students first learn to build sentences, then paragraphs, then learn to organize and string those paragraphs together into a narrative, letter, formal essay or research paper. I am so thrilled we discovered it. And, like the workbook exercises, these written works are also done in an approachable, step-by-step process.

The recommended pace is that a page or part is done each day. I think if you can help him see drafts as necessary to the process and get him on board that way, that he'll be able to make some real progress with writing. As I said, we started out by watching the lessons, but probably because they are so used to me teaching them, they preferred to do the worksheets without first watching the DVD again, though, I need to emphasize that the DVD lessons are excellent - definitely watch the sample above. My oldest child is also using the Literature program and I feel it is just as wonderful!!!! As a result, it can help students become more confident writers by teaching them that everyone makes mistakes and that these can be fixed , and can help them develop the skills to critically assess and further improve their own work, a skill every writer should develop. It was really hard because I kept mixing up which foot to use, so after a block or so I gave up on the whole thing.

That said, the company does offer supplements that can, when added to Student Structure and Style, provide students with a more full language arts curriculum. The videos also tend to focus more on modeling proper writing and examining the writing process, rather than offering a lot of direct and formal instruction in writing or discussion of its mechanics, which are covered more thoroughly in the workbooks. For example, Lessons 1 and 2 each have a part A and B, while Lesson 3 has parts A, B, and C.

Just want to get to the EIW Reviews? The lessons are short and do a great job of teaching the concept without any unnecessary filler. Katherine What an experience this has been! The Smarter Learning Guide is reader-supported. He leaves mistakes up, then corrects them. Thank you again Merry! Homeschools who prefer long, in-depth and explicitly-taught lectures Although it does formally teach grammar and writing rules, lessons in EIW tend to be short, modeling-based and overall more focused on getting students learning to write rather than providing long and detailed explanations of writing elements, grammatical theory and mechanics. I was so pleased to see that he really took that lesson to heart. We pretty much did all the lessons except the research paper because my son was completing a research paper for his PA History. It's the kind of stuff that also came up in my kids' Freshman English classes in college, so I found the foundation helpful for that reason.

Maybe it's because we know so much and we want to give it to them all at once. Finally, there is also a duplicate answer key and, in upper level books, scoring guides with rubrics for evaluation and sample texts for comparison. EIW is truly one of a kind! Stephens uses a bit less humor and more direct demonstration to teach. The lessons are arranged with grammar for the first 28 lessons. A mom of two, she majored in English Language and Literature and worked as a substitute teacher and tutor for several years. Merry :- Melissa Thanks Merry.

While we are still in the beginning steps of narrowing down her topic, Why so many people eat junk food, I really enjoy the thoroughness and detail of the whole process. It sounds like the biggest obstacle for your son is just the thought process of wanting the first draft to be the final. If he knows computers, tell him his rough draft is the equivalent of an old 286 or 386. I know this is an older post, but I hope you can answer some questions. That one sentence went into 2 different style graphic organizers where my son added more details each time, then into a rough draft paragraph, then revised with more details a couple of times, and finally into a final, edited draft.
