Mockingjay is the third and final book in the Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins. The story follows Katniss Everdeen, a young woman from District 12 who becomes the symbol of the rebellion against the Capitol, a corrupt and tyrannical government that rules over the dystopian society of Panem.
As the book begins, Katniss has just survived the events of the previous two books and is now living in District 13, a previously unknown district that has been in hiding and building its strength for a rebellion against the Capitol. Despite her trauma and the fact that she has lost nearly everything, Katniss is convinced to become the "Mockingjay," the symbol of the rebellion, and to lead the charge against the Capitol.

Concealing her true plan, which is to assassinate President Snow herself, Katniss leads the group underground. A while after this, Katniss finds herself in the same room as Snow and finds she has to talk to him. Katniss does not quite trust Coin yet, especially since District 13 stood by and watched all the other districts suffer at the hands of the Capitol for years. Some of the action sequences seemed rather forced, and Suzanne Collins seems almost too happy to kill off her characters — as opposed to, say, Stephenie Meyer, who killed exactly one main character type person in her series of four books. The success of the rebellion rest on Katniss' willingness to be a symbol of rebellion, to accept responsibility for countless lives, and to change the course of the future of Panem. A Quarter Quell basically means that the Capitol can add whatever twist they wish to the Games — and this year, they decide to hold the reaping amongst previous victors.
Twelve districts in Panem have taken up arms against the cruelty of President Snow and the exploitation by the Capitol. That just seems kinda tacky. Meanwhile, Katniss and Finnick film new propos in which Finnick reveals all the secrets he knows about prominent Capitol citizens. Just as the rebel medics including Prim rush in to help, the bombs explode again. Katniss must decide if she either wants to be a part of the rebellion or if she will let the rebels fight without her participation.
Katniss is assigned to Squad 451 a group of Sharpshooters led by Katniss and Gale are disappointed to find out that Squad 451 will be the "Star Squad," or the public face of the rebellion. The flowers symbolize as a loved being for Miss Strangeworth since she takes care of them dearly and protects them from the wickedness in her town. Katniss finds purpose in her role as the Mockingjay, but she chafes under the scrutiny and control of rebellion leader Coin, former gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee, and her mentor Haymitch Abernathy. Katniss's first duty as Mockingjay is to film "propos" - televised calls for resistance. Coin quickly sends a replacement: Peeta who still is wired to kill Katniss. Try, for instance, ten years. However, they fall into a kind of trap and half their team is killed, leaving, amongst others, Peeta the guy who's claimed to love her and Gale her best friend of seven-ish years. Boggs and Katniss both recognize this as a threat to her life, and Boggs warns Katniss not to trust the power-hungry Coin, as she is willing to do anything—including killing Katniss—to get what she wants.
