Pelzer writes in an honest, sometimes rambling, style; he is never bitter, and his story will find many sympathetic readers. I realize it's only a matter of time before she orders me upstairs. The book continues after the ending of the previous book, A Child Called "It" with David Pelzer, 9 years old, running away from his home in Daly City, California. Tears, laughter, devastation and hope create the journey of this little lost boy who searches desperately for just one thing -- the love of a family. He appears to be on the verge of tears. This way of approaching things with a child who has been recently been abused is not the right way to go about things at all. It is very well written and really draws the reader into the book and makes them feel many different emotions, it is truly a emotional rollercoaster but it is a great book for readers who enjoy true life novels. David's stay at the Joneses' is short. He steals candy bars from a local store, and when that grows boring he starts stealing toys. He quickly gets his act together, winning the support of the official at Hillcrest. Reading Response 16 I fell in love with this book. Some of the effects are positive and some are negative.
