Platoon is a 1986 war film directed by Oliver Stone and starring Charlie Sheen, Willem Dafoe, and Tom Berenger. The film tells the story of Chris Taylor, a young man who drops out of college and volunteers to serve in the Vietnam War.
As Chris arrives in Vietnam, he is assigned to a platoon led by the ruthless and aggressive Sgt. Barnes. Barnes is a hard-nosed leader who is willing to do whatever it takes to win the war, even if it means committing war crimes and disregarding the lives of his own men.
On the other hand, Chris is initially drawn to the more compassionate and humanistic Sgt. Elias, who tries to balance the demands of the war with his own moral code. As Chris becomes more disillusioned with the brutality of the war and Barnes' leadership, he begins to align more with Elias and the other soldiers who share his views.
As the platoon continues to fight in the jungle, they are faced with intense combat and devastating losses. Chris is forced to confront his own beliefs and values as he witnesses the horrors of war firsthand. Ultimately, he must decide whether to follow the ruthless Barnes or the compassionate Elias as the two sergeants come into conflict with each other.
As the war comes to an end, Chris is left to grapple with the psychological and emotional toll of his experiences in Vietnam. Platoon is a powerful and thought-provoking film that explores the complexities of war and the human cost of conflict.

One way is to present the conquering enemy as so inhuman, and the battle between the good guys us and the bad guys them so uneven, as to render defeat irrelevant. This book is extremely relevant to the war that we are still fighting in Afghanistan and the humanitarian work that continues. Barnes when Barnes confronts him and others about killing Sgt. This can be seen early in the film after the platoon engages the enemy on an all night ambush where a new recruit, Gardner, ends up getting killed. The film was about three steel workers in extraordinary circumstances.
