The Weather Underground, also known as the Weathermen, was a radical left-wing organization active in the United States during the late 1960s and early 1970s. The group was formed in 1969 as a splinter group from the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), and was known for its violent and militant tactics, including bombings and acts of sabotage. One of the most prominent members of the Weather Underground was Terry Robbins, who played a key role in several of the group's bombings and was killed in the accidental explosion of a bomb factory in Greenwich Village in 1970.
Terry Robbins was born in 1948 in New York City and grew up in the suburb of New Rochelle. He was a talented student and athlete, and attended Columbia University on a scholarship. At Columbia, Robbins became involved in the SDS and was drawn to the group's radical politics and opposition to the Vietnam War. In 1969, he joined the Weather Underground, which had been formed by a group of SDS members who believed that the organization was not doing enough to combat the war and other issues.
As a member of the Weather Underground, Robbins was involved in several high-profile bombings and other acts of violence.
