The pair is backed up by the fine cinematography and excellent locations; if one wanted to use If You Are The One as a China travel planner, they certainly could do worse. As pragmatic as Smiley was though, it was difficult to understand some of the decisions she made over a failed love affair. However, Feng Xiaogang's instincts are sharp; the film possesses an appreciable dry wit, and the fine performances and dynamite location photography shore things up considerably. If, after both videos have been played, if there is still at least one girl from the favourites group still with their light on, the man can elect to either swap one of the finalists for one of the girls from the favourites group with her light still on, or to keep the initially selected girls on the gold podiums as finalists. If his preferred girl had turned off her light, the man leaves the stage alone. Or something like that. Both he and Shu Qi bring more to their characters than lesser actors could, and manage to create a believable bond between two people who should rightly be nothing more than strangers. The gameplay of the special episodes was the same as the normal episodes. Of all the women he meets through the ad, Qin Fen can't forget the lovely but deeply troubled flight attendant, Smiley Shu Qi. Shu Qi and Ge You share a cozy camaraderie even if they are as flirtatious as two iguanas having a siesta.
The show's popularity and social commentary has drawn the attention of academics and foreign media, and after concerns from Chinese regulators in 2011 the show's format was tweaked to de-emphasize factors such as financial wealth. The man puts to the finalists a question that he chooses from a set menu of queries. Feng Xiaogang's script is witty and smart, and Ge You is a charismatic, if unconventional leading man. Ge You played Qin Fen, a 40ish man, who had recently come into money and was ready to find a wife. Regardless, the two commiserate over drinks, where the melancholy Smiley reveals that she's dating a married man Alex Fong.

Shu Qi did an amazing job as the emotionally wounded character, unable to find meaning in her life without her lover, utterly drowning in despair.
