Red Tails is a 2012 war film directed by Anthony Hemingway and produced by George Lucas. It tells the story of the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of African American pilots who served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II.

The film follows the journey of the Tuskegee Airmen as they train to become pilots and eventually deploy to Italy to fight in the war. The story is told through the eyes of a young pilot named Marty "Easy" Julian, who is played by Nate Parker.

One of the main themes of Red Tails is the struggle for respect and recognition faced by the Tuskegee Airmen, who faced discrimination and prejudice from their white counterparts. Despite this, they persevered and proved themselves to be skilled and brave pilots, ultimately earning the respect and admiration of their peers.

The film's cast is led by an ensemble of talented actors, including Cuba Gooding Jr. as Major Emmanuelle Stance and Terrence Howard as Colonel A.J. Bullard. The performances are strong and the characters are well-developed, making for a compelling and emotionally resonant story.

The action scenes in Red Tails are impressive, with breathtaking aerial combat sequences that showcase the bravery and skill of the Tuskegee Airmen. The special effects are top-notch and the cinematography is stunning, making for a visually impressive film.

Overall, Red Tails is a powerful and inspiring war film that tells an important and largely overlooked story. It is a tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of the Tuskegee Airmen and a reminder of the struggles and triumphs of the African American community during World War II. It is a must-see for fans of war films and anyone interested in history.

These young actors do the best they can, but the dramatic roles seem a bit too much for them, at times. I think Anthony Hemingway does a great job directing it, but it's really does look like a George Lucas movie. Jordan and leader Martin "Easy" Julian Nate Parker, "The Great Debaters" , among others, who are assigned rickety planes for duty far from front line action. Okay, that addresses some of the issues that are clouding this movie. Underdog group who happens to be a different race overcomes prejudice and rises to the occasion and we get all the cheesy montages about how 'racism is bad' message.

Lucas doesn't understand that the 'popcorn' war movie is grossly outdated, and audiences won't buy into it anymore. The film's greatest success is finding a way to balance respect with simplicity. Look I know it is a movie and not a documentary, but it kills me when at the beginning of the film it boldly states that this movie is based on factual events. It felt so forced, like the music in one of those "patriotic" animatronic exhibits at Disneyland that gets mocked. The story is, on the face of it, an interesting one, but the narrative strokes are so unbelievably broad that the film really doesn't progress after the basic plot setup is done. I would have appreciated their thoughtful late-night conversations about the meaning of it all.

At its heart, the movie is a throwback to when we didn't have to seriously consider how war can tear apart a man's body and soul. . The shots of them in combat ring about as true as Spy Kids. Sadly, Parker can't match Oyelowo and we're left to wonder why these men are friends and why someone as milquetoast as Julian was tasked with leading his fellow pilots, especially when his best friend is undermining him at every turn. But that's just about the technical fallacies and impossibilities. It's a film that will leave you cheering for bravery and courage. Here, I didn't feel fear as the pilots took off.

Those six groups downed over 1,400 Axis planes, on average each credited with twice as many kills as The Tuskegee guys. . The Tuskegee Airmen was a very good film tribute to some fine men of colour who struggled against all odds to prove themselves worthy to fight alongside their white comrades. One new recruit salutes his fellow officers and is told "you can forget all that here, your home now boy. It also depicts the German fighter jets in an awesome way. Worse, most of the Axis equipment has been destroyed. Their stories made me feel sad because regardless of what rank they had earned, the discrimination was due to the color of their skin.

Bullard Terence Howard of "Iron Man" about using his men to fly escort. The Pentagon doesn't believe that African-Americans are courageous enough for the task at hand. Lightning is the daredevil who enjoys hitting back and is comfortable with his arrogance. Then again, however, at least the documentary would be telling the real story. Watching the movie, I felt like I was watching a Playstation game.

. I thought the whole Stalag 18 scenes could have been taken out. And because the movie is so determined to unambiguously tell the audience how to feel, it finishes a clumsy manner that feels dishonest to the story and the characters. The program aims at training "colored personnel" to become fighter pilots for the Army. What a story to take part in!! The earnest, appealing cast does their best with what they have, but the story jumps from one point to the next without much coherence, and the tone frequently seems jarring; the pilots banter during combat sequences that should leave them shaken and seem to treat the war like an exciting game rather than a life-or-death experience. Yet in their first engagement with Luftwaffe veterans, they wipe the bad guys out while suffering zero losses. Much of the acting is painful to watch.

These African-American airmen have been consigned to essentially non-combat patrols in areas where enemy planes haven't been seen in months. It portray Americans like heroes while the Germans are all faceless, inhuman, and contempt. Yes, we know we're in Italy, but in case anyone is confused we're treated to a musical cue that sounds like the spaghetti scene from Lady and the Tramp. However, the new responsibilities add stress on the relationship between team leader Marty "Easy" Julian Nate Parker and his friend and ace pilot Joe "Lightning" Little Oyelowo. This film shouldn't have been a 12A. In Spike Lee's " I'm also not sure Lucas did his movie a favor by speaking so widely about the industry's reluctance to finance all-black casts.

A lot of the claims made in the film such as the number of losses suffered by bomber crews under their escort, the encounters with Luftwaffe jet fighters and the overall record established by the Tuskegee Airmen are not that accurate. I expected better than this, I am sure that anyone connected with the daring and groundbreaking efforts of the airmen in the war expected better too. They don't claim it to be and it certainly isn't a documentary so some critics get over it. The Tuskegee Airmen are a squadron of black pilots finally given the chance to prove themselves in the sky, even while they're battling discrimination on the ground. . Explosions are all CGI and don't look like they exist in the same plane as the physical objects. .

While attacking a military railway. By contrast, the black pilots have to prove they're the model pilots and we know they're going to rise to the challenge. Not one single character stands out, and the Tuskegee Airmen were pretty outstanding individuals. It had no passion, or realism. For the record, "Three Kings" scenarist John Ridley and "The Boondocks" scribe Aaron McGruder deploy the dreaded N-word once and then fall back on clichés as creaky as a period World War II combat actioneer. But in a rather sad way, the score perfectly fits the entirely forced and artificial nature of the movie itself. I don't think this is justified, either.

Or the four P-40's attacking the Luftwaffe base and practically destroying the whole base with little damage to themselves. Due to prejudice in the country, African American pilots were deemed inferior and assigned second rate aircraft to fight missions. At the same time, the movie is more often than not corny and hokey. Bullard, 332nd Fighter Group commander, was tasked by the USAFF Bomber Command, to fly their fighters as bomber escorts over Germany, which gave the group another chance to show their skills and bravery. If these guys are lucky, they get to shoot up a Nazi truck, and these fellows are itching to see some real action.
