"Godfather Death" is a German fairy tale collected by the Brothers Grimm in the 19th century. The story follows a poor man who has twelve children and cannot afford to provide for them. Desperate for help, he seeks out Godfather Death, a personification of death itself, to be the godfather of his thirteenth child.
Godfather Death agrees to the man's request and becomes the godfather to the child, promising to provide for him and make him a rich and successful man. He decides to leave Godfather Death and seek his fortune elsewhere. When he does, Godfather Death is angry and causes the child to become ill. The child is unable to cure himself and eventually dies, fulfilling the pact he made with Godfather Death when he agreed to be his godfather.
"Godfather Death" is a cautionary tale about the dangers of making deals with death and the importance of being grateful for the blessings that we have.
